The `Old Town`...
This area developed during Victorian times and now features a wide variety of specialist shops and independent stores offering a delightful range of items, complimenting the national multiples. It has benefited from Conservation and Commercial Improvement Area Grants, which have helped retailers to retain the traditional Victorian style shopfronts.

Bloomin` beautiful...
Ashton-under-Lyne`s debut in the national Britain in Bloom 2000 competition, which was rewarded with THREE awards including winner of the `Best Newcomer` category, has led to lasting benefits from many environmental improvements. 150 new trees have been introduced into the town centre along with 450 hanging baskets. Many new planters and tubs have been installed and new seating areas created where you can rest awhile and enjoy these improvements. This has helped to create a very pleasant experience for shoppers and visitors.
